Navi Mumbai: Taloja Police Book Man For Forcing Wife To Consume Poison In Alleged Suicide Attempt

Taloja police has registered a case against a man who attempted to kill his wife by forcing her to consume a poisonous substance, followed by his own suicide attempt. Both husband and wife are in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Kamothe.

Following the incident, Taloja Police have filed a case against the husband for attempted murder and have started further investigations.

The complainant in the case, 20-year-old Pratiksha Rathod, has alleged that her husband, 28-year-old Nagesh Veerappa Sutar, had forced her to consume something. According to police, the couple got married a year ago and were living in a rented house in Nandgaon, Taloja. However, frequent disputes between them led Pratiksha to move to her parents’ house in Dombivli two months ago.

On January 18, after Pratiksha returned from work at Taloja MIDC, Nagesh assaulted her following a heated argument. Pratiksha had subsequently lodged a complaint against Nagesh at the Taloja Police Station.

Three days later, on January 21, Nagesh approached Pratiksha near her workplace on a scooter. Despite her resistance, he forcibly took her to a marketplace in Panvel’s Mirchi Galli. There, he purchased a poisonous substance and took her to a hill in Nandgaon. He then consumed the poison, threatening that they would die together, and forced Pratiksha to consume it as well.

As Pratiksha began experiencing severe discomfort, Nagesh rushed her to the Panvel Sub-District Hospital and later shifted her to MGM Hospital in Kamothe for further treatment.

“After regaining consciousness, Pratiksha provided her statement, detailing the incident. Based on her account, we registered a case of attempted murder against Nagesh and began searching for him,” a police officer from Taloja police station said, adding, “Initially, Nagesh was untraceable.

However, we found that he had also been admitted to MGM Hospital after experiencing symptoms from consuming the poison, two days later.” The police confirmed that both individuals are now receiving treatment at the hospital and the further investigations are on.
