Mumbai: Minister Chandrakant Patil Directs Formation Of Committee To Expedite AI University Establishment

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday directed the formation of a committee to expedite the establishment of India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) university. This initiative is part of the state’s efforts to contribute to the “Viksit Bharat 2047” mission and the broader goal of propelling India towards a $5 trillion economy.  

During a meeting at the state secretariat with Information and Technology Minister Ashish Shelar, Patil instructed that a task force be created to drive the project forward. The task force will include key officials such as Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department B. Venu Gopal Reddy, Principal Secretary of Information Technology Parag Jain-Nainutia, Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Devalankar, Director of the State Technical Education Board Dr. Pramod Naik, and Paresh Page of Brahma Research Foundation.

Patil highlighted the importance of the AI university in fostering cutting-edge research and providing young people with the necessary technological skills to excel globally. The university will focus on research, industry collaboration, and delivering a curriculum that aligns with future technological trends.  

IT minister Shelar expressed his belief in the transformative potential of AI, noting that mastery in this field could open doors to vast employment opportunities and help elevate India’s position in the global economy. He confirmed that the establishment of the AI university would be a significant step in strengthening India’s technological leadership.

The committee and task force are expected to work swiftly to ensure the timely establishment of the AI university, which will play a crucial role in shaping a skilled workforce ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
