MP Shocker! Boat Capsizes In Backwaters Of MataTila Dam; SDRF Team Recovers Six Bodies

Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): SDRF team, on Wednesday, recovered six bodies from Madhya Pardesh’s Shivpuri district, after a boat carrying seven people capsized in the backwaters of MataTila dam.

According to information, four women, one minor girl and two boys went missing, when their boat capsized in MataTila dam backwater in Shivpuri district on Tuesday. 

Nearly 17 hours later, on Wednesday, the SDRF team recovered the first body, identified as Sharada’s husband, Imrat Lodhi. Since then, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team has retrieved a total of six bodies.

One person still missing 

Fifteen SDRF personnel are actively searching for one more missing person. The local administration has set up a temporary tent at the site for post-mortem examinations.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 4:45 pm when 15 villagers from Rajawan were traveling by boat to Siddh Baba Temple, located on an island in the dam for Holi celebrations. 

Before reaching the temple, the boat lost balance and overturned, causing all passengers to fall into the water. Local villagers managed to rescue eight people.

CM Mohan Yadav announces ex-gratia

According to Pichhore SDOP Prashant Sharma, SDRF personnel are continuously searching the dam’s catchment area. Late at night, Collector Ravindra Kumar Chaudhary, SP Aman Singh Rathore, and District Panchayat CEO Himanshu Jain visited the site to monitor the rescue operation.

Boatman Pradeep Lodhi, who survived the accident, said that a woman on the boat first noticed water entering the rear part of the boat. Shortly after, the boat rapidly started sinking.

CM Mohan Yadav took to X, expressing his grief over the incident which he termed as ‘deeply saddening.’ He als announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased.

Rescue efforts of one more person are still underway.
