Manipur: External affairs minister R.K Ranjan Singh urges public to apply passport online, interview fix as early as possible

Imphal: Manipur external affairs minister R.K Ranjan Singh said that the government has been taking all possible measures to fix the passport related issues arising in the state and urged the public to apply online because internet has been restored in some places of Imphal.

Speaking to media persons, R.K Ranjan Singh said, “The Passport seva Kendra, Imphal has been closed for many months due to the ethnic violence in Imphal. In this context, I would like to inform you the public especially that violence erupted in Imphal and also the banning of Internet services compelled the Passport seva Kendra to close down. However, the urgency cases were already we are processing on the request of the person concerned in consultation with the regional passport office, Guwahati,”.

“Now the situation calm down in Imphal and in some parts of Imphal, the internet is workable. So, I appeal those who willing to apply for passport can apply online and the the personnel interview will be fixed as early as possible in consultation with regional passport office in Guwahati,” Singh stated.

After the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur, the passport seekers are forced to travel in Guwahati and other states with huge expenses merely for getting passport.

Since May 4, the Passport Seva Kendra in Imphal was defunct after the large scale violence in Imphal.

At least 150 people have been killed and over 400 people were wounded in the violence that began in May.

More than 60,000 have been forced from their homes as the army, parliamentary forces and police struggle to quell violence.
