L.P. Joshi assumes charge as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of THDC India Limited

L.P. Joshi has assumed charge as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of THDC India Limited on 14th October 2025. Prior to this, he was serving as Executive Director (Tehri Complex).

A distinguished professional with over three decades of rich experience in the hydropower sector, Joshi holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) from MMM Engineering College, Gorakhpur and a Master of Technology in Water Resources Development and Management from IIT Roorkee.

Throughout his illustrious career at THDCIL, Joshi has contributed significantly to the planning, design, and execution of major hydroelectric projects. He played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Tehri Hydroelectric Power Project Stage-I (4×250 MW) and the Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (4×100) MW. Sh. Joshi also played an instrumental role in commissioning of the first two units (250 MW each) of India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant at Tehri, Uttarakhand, a landmark achievement in India’s renewable energy landscape.

During his tenure as Executive Director, Joshi was responsible for overseeing the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP) as EIC under the EPC mode and led key initiatives involving due diligence, resolution plan preparation and participation in NCLT proceedings related to the transfer of 1750 MW Demwe Lower and 1200 MW Kalai-II hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

He continues to guide operations at Tehri HPP (4×250 MW) and Koteshwar HEP (4×100 MW) with major contributions toward Quality Assurance, pre-dispatch inspections and the restoration of electro-mechanical systems affected during past flooding incidents at Koteshwar. His leadership has strengthened THDCIL’s Operations and Maintenance (O&M) framework and enhanced technical standards across the organization.

An accomplished engineer and thought leader, Joshi has authored and presented several technical papers at national and international forums. He has undergone advanced training in computerized control systems in Germany and governing systems in France and is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education as well as an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India).
