Assam: Ulfa(I) cadre surrenders before Dibrugarh police

DIBRUGARH, FEB 22: A Ulfa (I) cadre was surrendered before Dibrugarh police on Wednesday.

The cadre  has  been identified as Bikramjit Chetia alias Bikram Gogoi alias Ranjit Asom had deserted the Ulfa camp and surrendered before Dibrugarh police.

A team of Chabua police went near the Assam-Arunachal in Tinsukia district and brought the cadre to Dibrugarh.

Bikram Gogoi is a resident of Chabua, Dibrugarh and he joined Ulfa(I) in 2019.

Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, Dibrugarh superintendent of police Shwetank  Mishra said, “Bikram Gogoi’s family members contacted us that he want to return to home. We have prepared and send a police team from Chabua to brought him back. He was brought back to Dibrugarh and we have started our interogation. We have sent the papers of his surrender to Guwahati police  headquater  for their approval,”.

Bikram Gogoi joined Ulfa(I) in 2019 and since then he was in Ulfa(I) camp at Myanmar.

Meanwhile, many Ulfa(I) cadres and leaders have return back to mainstream to lead a normal life.

“We don’t know why he return from Ulfa(I) camp. We have started our interogation process. Till now we cannot divulge much details on him,” said Mishra.

Sources claim that the Ulfa(I) cadre was also involved in the recent extortion case wherein Ulfa(I) cadre Udai Axom was Rupam Axom’s (extortion specialist) right hand man.
